This special package was designed for those who travel with Danu Enterprises to SE Asia, and may be enjoyed at the beginning or end of the tour. It includes the best of what we discovered in the three years that we offered Cambodia as part of our larger trip package. Unfortunately due to the danger of land mines, extensive touring inside Cambodia is not encouraged. Angkor Wat, surely one the seven wonders of the world is a “must see” for all travelers to Asia.

Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia covers an area of 69,900 SQ. miles, and is bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, with a population of about 111 million. During the mid to late 20th century the lush rice fields and hamlets of this beautiful and gentle land were ravaged first by B-52 bombers, and later converted into the Killing Fields of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. Now Cambodians are slowly rebuilding their country and the ancients monuments of Angkor have been declared safe and open to international tourism. Roads are being resurfaced and upgraded, international hotel facilities operating and international airports functioning, inviting the curious traveler to explore the magnificence of Angkor Wat–the largest temple complex in Asia. Now is time to explore this magnificent site–truly one of the wonders of the world., as the numbers of visitors continue to swell.

Itinerary:

Day1 : Siem Reape – B Arrival Arrive in Siem Reape, where you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your accommodation Steug Siem Reape Hotel. Then our touring begins: first we visit the main shrine of Preah Ang Chheck/Chhom temple, and the Angkor National Museum. The museum gives us an insight into the ancient times of Cambodia, and there are artifacts from every region in the ancient times.

Day2 : Siem Reape – B Touring Temples: In the morning you visit the ancient Khmer civilization site of Hariharalaya which flourished in the late 9th and early 10th centuries. These are the oldest temples in the Angkor complex and are referred to as the Rolous group. W e visit the he main temples, Lo Lei, Preah Koh, and Bakhong. Venture on to visit a shadow puppet maker, and a performance by children. We continue with a trip to the rural village 35 km away from the Angkor area to visit the small but magnificent Banteay Srei Hindu temple from the 10th century, dedicated to Shiva. This temple was the birthplace of the Khmer classical style of architecture, and the bas-relief work considered the best example of Khmer classical art. The pink sandstone sculptures resemble bears. You will marvel at a series of striking and beautiful sculptures, lintels, pediments and friezes. In Khmer culture it is said: “the temple must have been carved by women because the details are too fine for the hands of a man”. On the way back to Siem Reape you will visit Banteay Samre temple, which is adorned with impressive reliefs depicting scenes from the life of Vishnu and Krishna. At the end of the day, you can enjoy the sunset with a bottle of champagne in the rice paddies, before we head back to your accommodation in Siem Reape.

Day3/: Siem Reape – B, D Highlighted temples Early morning, you will visit the picturesque temple Ta Prohm, which nearly disappears into the jungle. The magnificent roots of the trees push between huge stone blocks of the temple in a sort of embrace, create a unique lasting picture . After this amazing experience, enjoy the breakfast box we provide to consume at some nearby temples. The trip continues with a visit of the famous temples at “Angkor Wat” – one of the world’s most impressive ruins. The next station of your journey through Angkor is the mysterious royal city of Angkor Thom. At the conclusion, view the surrounding complex including the Baphou, Elephant Terraces, the Leper King Terrace and the Royal Place. The last stop is the impressive temple Preah Khan, built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. Enjoy dinner with a Khmer traditional dance performance in local restaurant .

Day4/: Siem Reap – B, L Countryside tour & boat ride in floating village

The is one of the best opportunities to observe the life of the people in the countryside around Siem Reape. This tour gives you an insider experience and knowledge of Cambodian. You are picked up at your accommodations in a comfortable vehicle and transferred out of town to a beautiful village in the countryside. Arriving in the village, you begin to walk witnessing different activities in local daily life. Some examples: how the locals wash vehicles, selling gasoline in whiskey bottles, and the small shops where people sell food on side streets.

On the way interact with friendly villagers while picking fruit. We stop at one large local house to see the family makes rice wine and handicrafts. One member of the family will offer us fresh coconut juice and some rice wine to taste. Continue to walk, stopping at another local house where we will help the family to cook an authentic Khmer lunch for us. After lunch, enjoy a 30-minute ox-cart ride through the rice paddies to reach our car, and transfer to Tonle Sap Lake. On arrival, we will board a quaint local boat which takes us to the amazing floating village where you will be welcomed by warm smiles from the humble local people living on the lake. We will be back to Siem Reap town around 4pm where our guide will take you for last minute shopping, We recommend to Angkor Arts Collection, a unique shop selling authentic Cambodian silk and silver.

Day5/: Siem Reap – Departure

Breakfast at the hotel and you will be free until transfer to airport for departure.
